CAIQUES
Authors: Rosemary Low
86 pages
ISBN: 80 7322 042 3
In appearance and behaviour Caiques are among the most distinctive of parrots. Their personality is also unique. No other parrot has the same combination of characteristics: fearless, inquisitive and playful with a huge ego and a strong willpower. Their appeal is immediate: the upright stance, the cheeky manner and the unusual colour scheme. No wonder their popularity has skyrocketed with breeders and with companion parrot owners in recent years! However no reference book existed for the Caique lover! The leading avicultural bookseller in the UK told Rosemary Low (a long-time admirer of Caiques) that he was repeatedly being asked for a book on Caiques. So here it is! All the information in this book relates specifically to Caiques, except the health care section which applies to all parrots. Chapters include Captive History, Care and Housing, Diet and Nutrition, Pets, Breeding, Handrearing, Health and In the Wild. Rosemary is no stranger to Australian Birdkeeper Magazine readers, her articles appearing in almost every issue for the past 16 years. With 25 excellent colour photographs including all subspecies and chicks at various stages of development, this, Rosemary's 25th book, is sure to satisfy.

Oh, I have that book. Only book on caiques there is, but I do have a friend who is in process of writing one. Ms Lowe's book is very dry, but valuable, good information in it, quite a lot of historical stuff.

Here are 2 pictures, Sarah.
One of Trouper being goonie in his jolly ball and one picture of 3 babies from the breeder I got Ripley from.

Ahhhh, that first picture is terrific. He is such a photogenic bird. Man I hope you are making some loot off of his pictures. You really catch some good ones, good advertising for just about anything he's doing, but especially for the species itself. I love your photos. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_3_5.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSxdm477YYUS)

they would love to take a trip and have a vacation. but Ripley wants you to know she is a girl. :tyty2: Caiques don't reproduce without going to a lot of work, setting up nestbox and all. So a pair of caiques is a great combo.

Oh my Ripley I am so sorry LOL
You reminded me though of an Ellen Degenerous show I saw where she does live comedy and she called a woman Sir lmao
I didnt know this about the pair thing.. do you find with a species like Caiques that they would rather be with each other or with you or no difference..
Is this one of those you really should get 2 because they need constant attention species?
My rats always were better in pairs and still bonded to me just fine

yes, to all of the above. LOL.
you didn't see the Alien movies? Ripley got her name from there. Ripley is a tough good looking lady who kicks butt on aliens.
Caiques are not like many birds who say good by to their humans in favor of one another. they might get a bit testy during breeding season, but many find that with a pair, sexual frustrations are nonexistant if you get my drift and therefore, no frustrations, they mate, just don't breed without being set up for it.
2 is good as they are quite active and help to get rid of that energy AND double the fun. Our rats were the same way. We had our males neutered and didn't have to worry about babies. Ratties are cool!
